Dear Colleagues,
I am very pleased to present this Optoelectronics Strategic Outlook 2006 to you.
Hong Kong Optoelectronics Association (HKOEA) was honored to host the ICOIA Annual Congress 2006 and the first ICOIA ˇV China Forum 2006 in Hong Kong SAR during 11-13 th October this year. This is an important recognition by the international organization to the local optoelectronics communities that Hong Kong is now regarded internationally and regionally as a key center for optoelectronics development in China and Asia Pacific.
Delegations represented leading optoelectronics associations and government organization came from US, Japan , Taiwan , UK , Korea , Singapore , Germany , Australia , European Union , Canada to take part in the ICOIA Annual Congress.
The highlight of the three day event was the first ICOIA ˇV China Forum during which members of ICOIA met with delegates represented Wuhan , Shenzhen, Shanghai , Xiamen , Changchun and Beijing . This created a truly ˇ§International-Regional-Chinaˇ¨ platform of first hand exchange and a great opportunity to network.
The Strategic Outlook includes all presentations made by each member of ICOIA and our colleagues from Mainland China . The material herein is an excellent collection of information on global optoelectronics market trends and highlights, product and technology roadmaps, new product development trends in the optoelectronics industry world wide. I hope that you will find this a useful reference.
I would like to extend special thanks to the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR government for the ITF-GSP funding support of this program entitled ˇ§International Collaboration for the Development of Optoelectronics Industry in HKSAR and the Mainland Chinaˇ¨.
In 2003, the Commission has also provided an ITF-GSP funding to HKOEA for a program entitled ˇ§To Promote and Facilitate the Optoelectronics Development in Hong Kong and China ˇ¨ which lasted for 18 months. The program consisted of a ˇ§Greater China Forumˇ¨ and four Road Shows which was held in Hong Kong and Mainland China during the period.
Special gratitude must be extended to the program Sponsors, Co-organizers, Supporting Organizations and Hong Kong Productivity Council ˇV the Implementing Organization and all those who took part to have made it a success.
Lastly, but not least, we were honored to have Mr. Anthony Wong, Commissioner of the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government to conduct the Opening Ceremony of the ICOIA Annual Congress, and to Dr. John Lo, Senior Advisor to CEO of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Cooperation to deliver a keynote speech at the Annual Congress. In addition, we were most honored to have Professor Charles Kao to conduct the Opening Ceremony of the ICOIA-China Forum.
HKOEA has taken part in the early development of this emerging optoelectronics industry in Hong Kong since 2002. We aspire, together with our local optoelectronics community, to continue to promote position and facilitate the development of the emerging local optoelectronics industry through to maturity.
