One-Day Symposium on "Photonics R & D in Hong Kong:

The One-Day Symposium on "Photonics R&D in Hong Kong: Opportunities and Challenges" was held on 13 June, 2003 (Friday) in HK Science Park. The Symposium is focus on Networking and Technical Exchange amoung the Photonics. With the co-sponsored by ASTRI, HKSTP, HKOEA, CUHK, CityU HK, HK PolyU and HKUST, the symposium was successfuly attracted over 100 participants, included the participants in CUHK who through the real-time video conference.

 

The symposium started at 9:15am, with the Welcome and Opening Remarks by Mr. C.D. Tam (HKSTP).

The Morning Session was chaired by Prof. S.P. Wong(CUHK), with the topic on"Photonics Research in the Academia", and the following speakers delivered their talks:

  • Photonics Research at CityU HK - Prof. Pak L. Chu
  • Photonics Research at CUHK - Prof. Chinlon Lin
  • Photonics Research at HKUST - Prof. Hoi-Sing Kwok
  • Photonics Research at HK Poly U - Prof. Alex Wei

Afterward, the Panel Session I with the topic on"Futurn Challenges of Photonics Research at the Universities in Hong Kong" was moderated by Prof Chinlon Lin(CUHK), with 8 Panelists of: Speakers above plus Prof. P.S. Chung (CityU HK), Prof. Kei May Lau (HKUST), Prof. Leo Lau (CUHK), Prof. H.Y. Tam(HKPolyU) and Prof. K.W. Cheah (BU).

The afternoon session was chaired by Mr. Kenny Chow, with topic on"Photonics Industries in Hong Kong", and the following speakers delivered their talks:

  • Photonics R & D at ASTRI - Dr. Frank Tong
  • Photonics Center at HKSP - Mr. Peter Yeung
  • Photonics R & D in Hong Kong Industries - Mr. Daniel Lau

The Panel Session II followed with the topic on "Photonics Industries in Hong Kong: Roadmap to a Brighter Future" was moderated by Mr. Lin Chi Hung(ASTRI), with 8 Panelists of: Speakers above plus Mr. Kenny Chow (Lite Array OLED), Mr. William Yim(Sanwa Technologies), Mr. Bernard Leung (Photonics Manufacturing Services), Dr. Steve Yeung (Varitronix) and Mr. Bernard Zau (Micro Electronics).

Finally, ended with the Concluding Remarks delivered by Mr. S.W. Cheung, the Symposium was successfully ended at 5:00 pm.
