Vision

  • Stimulating economic growth in Hong Kong through the knowledge, manufacture and application of optoelectronics, and establishing cluster and network both locally and globally.

  • Promoting active academic exchange, academic-business exchanges, business-business exchanges, academic-commercialization-funding exchanges with an international flavour.

About the HKOEA logo

The HKOEA logo is constructed with 3 major parts:

There is a checker box in the middle which refers to conversion or transformation in technical terms, and there is a symbol of the light source and a symbol of a semiconductor device on each side, meaning that light energy converts to electrical energy and vice versa.

On both sides of the checker box, there are the oldest Chinese characters for light and electricity: ¥ú©M¹q . It is amazing that Chinese have written these several thousands years ago. Chinese do ¡§see¡¨ the light early on!

There is a dragon holding a plague. The dragon is a symbol of China. The Government of HKSAR also uses the dragon to promote Hong Kong as an international dynamic city, and it is getting more and more popular to use the dragon symbol to represent Hong Kong. The dragon is also a signature of speed, skill and power which is known to most people as the strengths of Hong Kong.

The logo is a combination of different elements: technology and tradition; culture of east and west; ancient and modern. Likewise, optoelectronics is also a combination of different technologies including semiconductors, electronics, photonics, optics, physics , chemistry and precision engineering such that Optoelectronics is truly an all-pervasive technology.
